Consul General Anne Hall at at the opening of the Alliance of Universities for Democracy’s conference

Consul General Anne Hall joined Former Prime Minister of Poland and current European Parliament member Jerzy Buzek and other dignitaries at the opening of the Alliance of Universities for Democracy’s (AUDEM) annual conference opening in Katowice at the Katowice School of Economics. The goal of this year’s conference, with support from US Mission to Poland, is to examine the role of the university and the challenge of transition facing societies in Eastern, South-Eastern and Central Europe. Dr. John Ryder, Director, Office of International Programs from the State University of New York and President of AUDEM, presided over the opening ceremony of the conference, which included speeches from city and regional government representatives. Several of the conference speakers noted that the conference sessions will be addressing topics such as citizenship, community involvement, and volunteerism, and how particularly relevant those topics are for democracies like Poland.
