Artur Szyk's Art Exhibit

Oct-25-2005
Wystawa sztuki Artura Szyka

Artur Szyk's Art Exhibit

An art exhibit celebrating the life of renowned Polish-American illustrator Artur Szyk “Justice Illuminated: The Art of Artur Szyk” was opened by Krakow CG Ken Fairfax on October 24 at the Jewish Cultural Center in Krakow. The opening included an introductory lecture on Szyk's art by Rabbi Irvin D. Ungar of the Arthur Szyk Society. The exhibit presented previously in Warsaw and Lodz is the first presentation of the artist's works in Poland after he left the country in 1937. Szyk, born in 1894 in Lodz, is considered by scholars and art critics to have been one of the greatest 20th century illuminators. His work became known to Americans through his illuminated manuscripts and political caricatures which appeared in America’s most popular magazines during and after the Second World War.
