Consul General presents the collection

Consul General of the United States in Krakow Kenneth Fairfax presented a set of over 140 books published by the Library of America to the library of the Institute of British and American Culture and Literature at the University of Silesia on November 29, 2005.

Afterwards the Consul General gave an overview on higher education in the U.S. and how it differs from the European model to around 200 students. The University is one of Poland’s largest with a student body of around 45,000.

The Library of America, a nonprofit publisher, is dedicated to preserving the works of America's greatest writers. The set contains works by Thoreau, Faulkner, Hawthorne, James, Melville as well as selections of American poetry, journalism and historical writings. The donation is part of an ongoing program by the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow to develop and expand ties with the major universities within its consular district.
