The U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe, on behalf of the United States government and the American people, expressed his condolences to the Polish people for the death of John Paul II, in an interview with TVP 3 Katowice on April 4, 2005.

The Ambassador lauded the Pope's achievements from his pivotal role in the collapse of Communism and bringing an end to the Cold War, to the inspiration he has given to people throughout the world of all faiths. He also stressed the Pope's ecumenical vision and his advocacy of global understanding.
