U.S. Expert On Freedom of Speech Speaks Out To Polish Students

On June 1 Consulate General in Krakow held its first “off-site” DVC at the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow the provincial capital of under served southeastern Podkarpackie Province. Robert Coonrod, former President and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and VOA director shared his insights and responded to numerous questions from both panelists and students of journalism and social communication. The questions covered most of today’s leading issues in reporting and publishing: media responsibility for errors, reinforcing stereotypes, sharing information that might foster terrorism, self -censorship, verifying and protecting sources of information, commenting versus reporting, duty or misuse of freedom of speech in case of publishing the Muslim cartoons etc.
