To celebrate African-American History Month the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow hosted lectures by Prof. Gary Monroe from Daytona Beach Community College on "The Highwaymen: Florida's African-American Landscape Painters". On February 18, 2005, Prof. Monroe spoke first to around 70 teachers and students of the Art College in Tarnow in the city’s historic old town hall. He then reprised the presentation to around 25 people at Krakow’s "Massolit Books", the city’s sole American owned and English language bookstore. Prof. Monroe appeared under the auspices of U.S. Speaker Program run by Department of State's Bureau of International Information Programs.
