The U.S. Consulate General in Krakow organized a DVD/DVC with acclaimed American documentary film maker Albert Maysles on December 15, 2005, with an audience of film studies students from Krakow’s Jagiellonian University.
The initial subject was his long-time interest, through an on going series of documentaries, on the work of avant-guard artists Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude. The afternoon’s event consisted of a screening of a two short films and a slide show: a film on Maysles life and another on Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s various projects culminating with this year’s famous “Gates” project in New York City’s Central Park.
This was followed by a DVC with Maysles during which he talked about not only his fascination with the work of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, but also about his life as a director of documentary films. In addition to discussing how technology has changed documentary film making, he also answered questions about his other films such as those featuring Truman Capote and Marlon Brando.
