Alan Lomax Archives Presented to the Students of the Institute of Jazz in Katowice

U.S. Consulate General in Krakow organized a presentation by the Alan Lomax Archives entitled " The Land Where Blues Began " to students of the Institute of Jazz Music of the Silesian Music Academy on March 11, 2005. The leading music school in Poland, it is a unique institution teaching jazz on the university level. The event was organized as part of celebration of African-American History Month, and featured as guest speakers Donald Fleming from the Alan Lomax Archives in NYC and Michael Taft from the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. Their lecture focused on the life and work of Alan Lomax and his audio-visual collection preserving American cultural heritage. The school also received a collection of CDs and DVDs from the Lomax Archives as well as a copy of Ken Burns’ documentary JAZZ and the book, which accompanied the series.
