Videoconference participants

American Information Resource Center at the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow organized a videoconference on the Library of Congress’ "American Memory" project on June 6, 2005. The videoconference was a part of the 11th annual conference organized by the Institute of Library and Information Science of the Jagiellonian University on the theme "Information on Cultural Objects and the Internet". It gathered over 20 representatives from libraries and universities both in Poland and abroad.
The videoconference featured Mr. Carl Fleischhauer of the Library of Congress, who introduced the website on "American Memory" and talked about the success that was possible through collaboration involving many different institutions both public and private. He also explained some technical aspects of the digitalization of audio, photos and video in the name of preserving and disseminating cultural objects. He stressed the intellectual property rights issues involved with including the materials in the American Memory collection. The presentation was followed by Q&A session.
Fulbright scholar Maria Jankowska, brought to the conference by the Consulate, delivered a paper on "Institutional Repositories as Cultural and Intellectual Treasures".
