U.S. Consulate General in Krakow helped bring Prof. Steven Rosefielde from the University of North Carolina and arranged for Kenneth Hillas the Deputy Chief of Mission from the U.S.Embassy in Warsaw to speak at a conference "The US - The EU: new partnership?" co-organized with the Institute of Strategic Studies, one of Polish leading think tanks on international affairs on December 2-3, 2005.

Bogdan Klich, Polish former deputy Defense Minister and currently serving as a member of the European Parliament opened the conference together with Kenneth Fairfax, Consul General in Krakow. High level conference participants also included Andrzej Olechowski, former Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Werner Hoyer, State Secretary in German MFA, Ingemar Dorfer from Swedish Defense Research Agency, and many other Polish, Ukrainian and German experts.

The U.S. Consulate also arranged an opening night reception as well as a digital videoconference with three office directors at the U.S. State Department. The conference helped shed light on the complexity of the U.S. and EU relations in the context of the new, enlarged EU. It provided a valuable forum for the Consul General, the DCM and State Department officials to give a U.S. government perspective on the issues under discussion.
