The U.S Consulate General in Krakow hosted "The Art of Writing and the Art of Translation," a meeting with Stefan Chwin, renowned Polish author of fiction and essays, historian of literature and professor at Gdansk University; and Philip Boehm, the American translator of Chwin's most acclaimed novel "Hanemann" (English title: "Death in Danzig") into English on May 14, 2005 at American owned Massolit Books, Krakow’s only English bookstore.

This special literary event was held in conjunction with the Book Institute of Poland’s 1st World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature. Both Chwin and Boehm read passages from the novel and answered questions from the 40-member audience made up mostly of fellow translators and writers. Prominent attendees included Andrzej Nowakowski, Director of the Book Institute, and one of Poland’s leading poets, Adam Zagajewski.
