As part of the Bridges to the East program, Polish and Ukrainian journalists got a joint study tour of the Polish Forestry complex near the Ukrainian border.
The meetings with Polish foresters and local government officials from the Bircza community helped to generate interest and concern about the very rich forests and natural reserves on both sides of the border.
The Polish experience of having to adapt to EU standards and curtailing wasteful exploitation of natural resources such as forests, rivers and lakes was shared with Ukrainian journalists. The Ukrainians produced several articles for the Ukrainian media on that topic including their first hand observations and interviews.
Journalists from both countries underlined the need for coordination of efforts related to environmental protection.
