U.S. Consul General Kenneth J. Fairfax opened an exhibition of photography on March 10 at the Museum of the History of Photography in Krakow. The exhibit can be seen from March 10 to April 9, 2006 and features photos by young participants from the Krakow-based "U Siemachy" Youth Center and secondary school students from Houston, Texas. A group of 20 boys and girls from "U Siemachy" Youth Center participated in photography classes conducted by photographer Chris Schwarz, founder of the Jewish Galicia Museum, from September to December 2005. The Exhibit features the best of their work and is open from Wednesday to Friday from 11:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 15:00. "Eye on Krakow" is modelled on the "Eye on Third Ward", a program at Jack Yates Senior High School in Houston, Texas. That project has been running successfully for ten years and was initiated by a photography teacher there, Ray D. Carrington. Pupils who participate in the project first learn about techniques of professional photography while taking active interest in the life and matters of Third Ward, the district where their school is located. Later, they take photos themselves and provide explanation for their choices. The best photos are exhibited by the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. |
