Consul General Allen Greenberg attended the opening of the 15th Ludwig von Beethoven Easter Festival on April 5. Elzbieta Penderecka, the director of the Festival, emphasized that it has been the tradition for the festival to start in Krakow with the exhibition of manuscripts by famous composers from the collection of the Jagiellonian University. This year's theme of the exhibit was "Beethoven and Eternal Femininity", presenting manuscripts and prints with the femininity as a subject matter as well as manuscripts by woman composers such as Maria Szymanowska. At the opening of the exhibition, Marcin Koziak, last year's Chopin Competition semifinalist and student at the Academy of Music in Krakow, performed pieces by Franz Liszt. The U.S. Consulate was a honorary patron of the opening night's concert by the Fine Arts Quartet from the United States, who performed music by Bruckner, Mozart, and Beethoven at National Museum's Gallery at the Sukiennice Cloth Hall.
