The Foundation for Environmental Partnership, one of Poland’s leading environmental organizations, was awarded a grant for $14,000 by the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Poland under the Democracy Commission small grants project in the summer of 2004.

The project sought to unite smaller NGOs from around the Malopolska province to take on regional-scope ecology projects, in this case the Amber Trail Greenway. This trail, which will run eventually from Gdansk to Budapest, is an international effort to reinvent historic trading routes as a modern day Central European heritage trail.

Based on the success of this pilot project, the Foundation recently was awarded a 3-year grant of 3 million euro by the European Union for a large-scale version of the program.
