US Astronaut, George Zamka Visits Poland

George Zamka, a pilot for Space Shuttle (STS-120) Discovery visited Warsaw, Olsztyn, Krakow, Chorzów and Sopotnia Wielka the week of November 17-21. Zamka was in Poland at the invitation of the U.S. Embassy and the Polish-American Freedom Foundation. Zamka met with youth and university audiences to talk about the history of NASA, its new "Constellation Program," future NASA missions and the training of an astronaut.
In Krakow, Zamka met with high school and university students at the Krakow University of Technology, Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Applied Computer Science. He also met with the public at Niepołomice Castle and visited the Youth Astronomical Society in Niepołomice. On November 21 George Zamka gave a presentation at the Chorzów planetarium and opened an exhibition entitled "New Era of Discovery - 50th Anniversary of NASA". The exhibit, prepared by the Office of Public Affairs of the US Consulate General in Krakow, presents some spectacular space photographs acquired during various NASA missions. In Sopotnia Wielka, Zamka gave a presentation on the future of NASA to students and visited the Beskidy Astronomical Club "Polaris", where the club members have created a replica of the Destiny Laboratory Module.
