Bima in Tarnow on the night of the Purim celebration
U.S. Consul Attends Purim Celebrations in Tarnow

Political-Economic Officer Kate McGeary attended a traditional reading from the book of Esther as part of Jewish community Purim celebrations at the Bima in Tarnow March 9. The celebration marked the first time Purim was observed there by the Jewish community since the destruction of the Old Synagogue in 1939. The event was organized with the support of the Foundation for the Preservation of Polish-Jewish Heritage, the Chabad Lubavitch organization, the Tarnow Museum, Tarnow City Hall and the Galicia Jewish Museum.  A group of students from the University of Pennsylvania also joined the historic celebration.
