August 13, 2009
Acting Consul General Jeffrey Vick participated in a commemoration ceremony organized by the "Rymanów Meeting" Association on Aug 13, 2009. The ceremony consisting of prayers and memory march is to remind of a robust Jewish community who lived in Rymanów, with an historic synagogue as the center of its community life. On August 13, 1942 the Nazis rounded up the Jews in Rymanów and sent them to concentration camps throughout Poland despite the best efforts of many Poles in the town who tried to protect and hide their neighbors. The 67th anniversary of that tragic event was organized to commemorate the victims and honor those Poles who were recognized as "Righteous among the nations" for having taken risks to help Jews during the Holocaust.
