Public Affairs Officer Susan Parker-Burns visited the Rzeszow School of Information and Management (Wyższa Szkoła Informatyki i Zarządzania w Rzeszowie) on Wednesday, November 21 to discuss missile defense issues with students and faculty. Ms. Parker-Burns described the current US missile defense system and outlined the proposal to base a European component of missile defense in Poland (ten missile interceptors) and the Czech Republic (an X-Band radar). Ms. Parker-Burns also addressed the issue of how the system could complement NATO missile defense plans and concerns regarding Russian opposition to the European Interceptor Site. She noted the continuing consultations between the U.S. and Russia on missile defense and pointed out that the modest number of interceptors proposed for European basing could not pose a threat to Russia’s massive strategic rocket force.
