Deputy Chief of Mission Kenneth Hillas and Security Expert Peter Brookes Speak on Missile Defense

Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Warsaw Kenneth Hillas met with International Relations students and faculty at the University of Silesia in Katowice on Monday, October 29 to talk about the proposed missile defense system in Poland. Mr. Hillas discussed the reasons for the proposed base, how the system would fit with NATO missile defense plans for Europe and how the system would increase Poland’s security. Students had the opportunity to ask about technical details of the missile defense system and the potential benefit for Poland. Deputy Chief of Mission Hillas also visited Wroclaw University on Monday October 29, where he was joined by Peter Brookes, senior fellow and security expert from the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC. They met with International Relations, European Studies and Erasmus students to discuss missile defense in the context of European security. Peter Brookes explained that the general US missile defense strategy, stressing that the proposed system would complement already existing US and European defensive capabilities.
