Dan Tepfer Trio to Play in Kraków and Warsaw June 3-5

Jazz pianist Dan Tepfer is returning to Poland 17 months after his first successful Polish tour in January 2008. Dan is visiting Krakow and Warsaw June 3-5 to perform with Polish musicians Michał Barański (bass) and Łukasz Żyta (drums). Dan will also offer free workshops for pianists at the Chopin Music School at ul. Bednarska Critics have called New York-based pianist/composer Dan Tepfer "brilliant" (Boston Globe), "one of tomorrow's jazz stars" (Eugene Weekly) and "certainly among those clearly willing to play with familiar formulas and take new approaches, even as he incorporates strokes from the masters" (Jazz review.com). The trio will play at Piec Art in Krakow 21:00 on June 3 and at Jazz Point (Zlote Tarasy) in Warsaw 20:00 on June 4, and again at Jazz Point 20:30 on June 5 with special guests the Jerzy Małek Quintet.  For details, see the schedule below and in the attached poster.

Raised in Paris, France in an American family, he started classical piano studies when he was six and quickly began to explore improvisation. In college, he majored in astrophysics before switching to jazz piano for his master's at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He tours internationally as leader of his trio and has released a debut CD which was voted one of the ten best albums of 2005 by Cadence Magazine. Tepfer was awarded both the first prize and the audience prize at the 2006 Montreux Jazz Festival Solo Piano Competition and was most recently named the 2007 Cole Porter Fellow in Jazz of the American Pianists Association. He has performed with jazz greats Lee Konitz, Steve Lacy, and Bob Brookmeyer, and has studied with Martial Solal, Fred Hersch, Kenny Werner, Danilo Pérez and Bob Brookmeyer.
