Consulate Visit to Rzeszów

Consul for Press and Public Affairs Susan Parker-Burns joined in a panel discussion on “Overlapping Culture in the Current Time and Space” at the Radio Rzeszow studios on Tuesday, January 22.  The discussion, organized by the foundation Partnership for Democracy, included Ukrainian writer Jurij Wynnyczuk and a sociologist from Higher School of Law and Administration in Przemyśl. The discussion focused Galicja’s culturally diverse past and the current influence of other cultures on the region.
Ms. Parker-Burns and the cultural attaché from the US Embassy in Warsaw, Jim Wolfe, also met with students at the Rzeszów University of Information Technology and Management on Wednesday January 23 for a discussion on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Dr. King’s birthday is an American holiday each year and was celebrated this year on January 21.  Jim Wolfe also gave a presentation on Native Americans as part of the discussion of race in America.  The day at the school as concluded with the opening of an exhibition entitled “American Writers” by photographer Nancy Crampton. The exhibition features photographs of well-known writers such as Toni Morrison, Saul Bellow, john Irving and Maya Angelou, accompanied by the writers’ thoughts on the craft of writing. The exhibition will be at the school through mid-February.
