There were many reasons to celebrate on Friday March 13 in Wroclaw. Consul General Anne Hall hosted a reception for a visiting sister cities delegation from Charlotte, North Carolina in Wroclaw at the American Corner in the Dolnoslaska Regional Library. The Charlotte delegation included a choir from Queen's University, and the choir performed a few American gospel favorites as part of the celebration. 2009 marks the 90th anniversary of Polish-American diplomatic relations, and as Consul General Anne Hall noted in her remarks, sister city relationships like the Charlotte-Wroclaw partnership are just one of the many links between the U.S. and Poland. Consul General Hall also reminded guests that March 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of Poland's accession to NATO and remarked on the quality and expertise of the Polish military. Lower Silesia Governor Rafał Jurkowlaniec also reminisced about this anniversary, recalling the debate over Poland's joining NATO in the early 1990s. The evening concluded with a reception in the American Corner, a library and program space that receives over 1,000 visitors a month and has a large circulating collection of books and DVDs about the United States.
