On August 13 Consul General Hall traveled to Rymanów to participate in a Remembrance March and Tribute to the Exterminated, in honor of the over 2,000 Jewish citizens of Rymanów who were executed by the Nazis in 1942. The two-day program grew out of the dream of several Rymanów residents who, as they told the CG, “had always felt the lack” of their former Jewish neighbors in Rymanów. Guests from the U.S., Israel and elsewhere turned out for the highly successful event. On August 14 the Consul General met with Mayor of Krosno Piotr Przytocki and visited Krosno’s new Regional Center of Cross-border Cultures, which boasts a state-of-the art performing arts center. She also met with Jasło Mayor Maria Kurowska, followed by a walking tour of the significant historical sites in Jasło and a visit to leading local entrepreneurs, including a small wine producer. Before returning to Krakow, the Consul General also met with Urszula Niemiec, acting mayor of the historical city of Biecz, for a discussion of local political and economic issues and tour of some of Biecz’s 14th century landmarks.
