On August 7, Consul for Political and Economic Affairs Duncan Walker attended a prayer service to celebrate the renovation of the Jewish Cemetery in Chrzanow.  The cemetery was heavily damaged during the Second World War and then neglected until several years ago.  The restoration project was shepherded by Mr. Samuel Mandelbaum of the Chrzanow Young Men's Association, Rabbi Baruch Halberstam, and the Mayor of Chrzanow Ryszard Kosowski.  Also attending the event were descendents of Chrzanow's pre-war Jewish population now residing in the United States, Israel, Germany, and Switzerland.  Chrzanow Mayor Ryszard Kosowski gave opening remarks to commemorate the renovation.  Ambassador Ashe met with Mayor Kosowski and toured the cemetery in March.
