Assistant Secretary Fried Spoke On Missile Defense at the Krynica Economic Forum

Assistant Secretary Daniel Fried of the U.S. Department of State attended the Economic Forum, which was held from September 5-8th, 2007 in Krynica, Poland. Assistant Secretary Fried participated in two panels at the forum: “Anti-Missile Shield – Common Security System or Area of Confrontation?” and “Security in the Southern Caucasus: Is Co-operation of USA, EU and Russia Possible?” The Krynica Economic Forum, the most prestigious event of its type in Central and Eastern Europe, included more than 130 debates with a theme of: “Europe – crisis, changes or chance? The Forum brought together representatives from more than 60 countries in Europe, America, Asia and was attended by more than 3,000 people, including European commissioners, presidents, prime ministers, governmental and parliamentary delegations, NGO representatives, experts and politicians, journalists (near 350), economic and cultural leaders. Also, speaking at the conference was Robert Boehme, Director of the Office of Ukraine, Moldovia, and Belarus in the U.S. Department of State, who participated in the panel “Diverging Strategies? Transatlantic Approaches to Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic Integration.” Judith McHale, former president and CEO of Discovery Communications Inc., spoke at the Forum on September 6th, participating in the panel “Women in Business: A Force for Innovation,” which was partially sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw. Subsequently, McHale participated in several public events in Krakow and Warsaw organized by the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw and the U.S. Consulate General in Krakow.
