The US Consulate in Krakow and Karkonoski National Park organized the opening of an exhibition entitled "American West" on Friday, August 7 in the park's educational center in Szklarska Poręba. The exhibit consists of fifty beautiful photographs by Wieslaw Pikul, a Polish-American photographer, of the American western landscape. Mr. Pikul's work captures the raw beauty of the American West and the rich color, texture and stark landscapes of that region. The award winning artist was born in Żabno, near Tarnów. Towards the end of the seventies he emigrated to the US where he spent much of his time taking photographs of the mountains, deserts, canyons and prairies. The exhibition was opened by Vice Consul Brian Randall, Andrzej Raj, Director of Karkonoski National Park, and Arkadiusz Wichniak, Mayor of Szklarska Poręba. Numerous local media, representatives of the county authorities, directors of cultural institutions, representatives of NGOs and Karkonoski National Park staff attended the opening. During the visit to Karkonoski Park, the director took the vice consul on a tour of the park. The exhibit will be open until September 30.
