Ambassador Victor Ashe visited Małopolska on December 4 to attend the International Session Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the UN Human Rights Declaration. The event was organized in Oświęcim by the Polish Commissioner for Civil Rights Protection Dr. Janusz Kochanowski. The Ambassador accepted the Paweł Włodkowic Award on behalf of United States Justice Antonin Scalia. Later the same day Ambassador Ashe visited the headquarters of the Second Mechanized Corps in Krakow. The Ambassador presented the Legion of Merit medal awarded by the US Secretary of Defense to Major General Edward Gruszka, Commander of the Corps, in recognition for his contribution to the mission in Iraq.
