Ambassador Ashe visited several cities and towns on a trip to southern Poland on August 14. His trip took him first to Promnice where he met with the mayor of Pszczyna and local officials at the Promnice Hunting Lodge. He then went on to Bielsko-Biala and Cieszyn where he met with the mayors of each city. He discussed local issues with the officials, sharing some of his personal experiences as a former mayor, and emphasized the unique and special relationship between Poland and the United States. In addition to the meetings with local officials, Ambassador Ashe also took advantage of his visit to Bielsko-Biala to visit the city’s airfield where he had the opportunity to view a mock rescue operation by one of the region’s mountain air rescue teams and to take a helicopter flight over the Beskidy region. In Cieszyn, Ambassador Ashe toured the Castle of Art and Enterprise and visited the workshops of two local artists where he very much enjoyed the opportunity to see some of the region’s impressive artwork.
